Players train off-ice to improve agility, speed, coordination, strength and more through custom and innovative programming for the hockey athlete, including strength training, foot speed and agility workouts, and yoga at the Sanford Fieldhouse.
Strength, Speed, & agility
Legend Hockey Elite's off ice strength, speed, and agility training is developed by Sanford POWER Manager, Scott Hettenbach. Mr. Hettenbach is the former head strength and conditioning coach for the University of Wisconsin men's basketball program and former associate director of sports conditioning at Wisconsin, where he oversaw all facets of strength, speed, agility, conditioning, testing, recovery and nutrition and worked with team physicians on injury prevention, return to play protocol and progressions, and coached numerous NBA, NFL, NHL and Olympic athletes.
Yoga & Training
Yoga for hockey players focuses on mobility/flexibility and core stabilization training to enable the exertion of maximum power, avoidance of injury, enhanced balance with emphasis on better body awareness, and control and accuracy of movement. Players are also trained to use their breath as a bridge between the mind and body, enhancing reaction time and limiting the performance-killing effects of mental stress. Yoga for hockey addresses the special requirements of goalies by working with them to create the considerable lateral agility and wide-ranging strength, flexibility, and balance necessary to make quick and intense multi-directional movements.
